Star a.k.a. "Little Lady" - Her Journey to New Hope Ranch
Star was renamed "Little Lady" when she came to New Hope Ranch in June of 2010.
The article below as a listing posted on Craigslist. New Hope Ranch called and spoke with the woman who had Star. Arrangements were made for New Hope Ranch to pick up the mare and take over her care.
This slideshow below marks her progress from before she came to New Hope Ranch until she left for her new "Forever Home". She is truly a success story!

We have a young sorrel mare that we rescued from the auction. When I say rescued, I mean that she was badly beaten and starving and so weak she could hardly stand. We were told she was headed for the meat wagon…so with mercy in our hearts, we purchased her from the man who owned her and we took her home.
Not entirely sure that she would survive, we did know for sure that she would at the very least, die in peace. Well, we abcessed injuries that were oozing puss and every bone of her skeleton visable, we have cared for her to the best of our ability. She has been fed alfalfa, equine senior, COB, herbal butte, and granulated garlic (to boost her immune system) all twice daily. We named her Star. She is sorrel with a flaxen mane, a star on her forehead and a left hind sock. She is approximately 15 hands tall and we are guessing about 2-3 years old. Star is now feeling pretty good! She is alert and much more energetic. Her wounds are almost healed. She still looks like she is starving. It will probably take another 6 or 8 months before she has a healthy weight and can be ridden. When we took her from the auction, it was not with the intent to keep her. We wanted to save her, and we have. Now, it is time for her to go to a new loving home. Please don’t call if you are thinking you will take this horse back to the auction to re-sell her to make a buck! This horse must go into the care of compassion and love. We were told that she had lost her foal the night before the auction. The foal was born premature and dead. Can you imagine the pain this young horse has endured? Star has struggled desperately for her life and she has WON! Star has a soft eye and an agreeable temperament. She leads and ties and trailers easily. As for conformation, it’s hard for me to tell because she looks so poor, but she does stand pretty square on all fours. I think we will all be pretty surprised a few month’s down the line. I have no idea what kind of training she may have had, if any, but I suspect she will make a fine companion due to her kind nature.
Let me stress this point again… if you are interested in this horse because you think you might make a buck by selling her…. I will smell you out like a rat! So don’t waste my time, or yours.

Star has gone to her new home at New Hope Ranch, www.newhoperanch.org. If you would like to visit Star and follow her progress, I do believe they welcome visitors there at the ranch. I want to thank all of you who called and expressed your compassion. It does feel good to know that there are so many caring people right here in my little neck of the woods.
